First Five Fox Valley announces the addition of Barb Tengesdal as the new Interim Executive Director, leading the organization’s work in cultivating a community that empowers and supports every family in building a solid foundation for young children. In her new role, Tengesdal will be responsible for advancing the strategies, goals and initiatives of the First Five Fox Valley early childhood coalition in Outagamie, Calumet and Winnebago counties.

“Barb brings a broad range of expertise in child development and non-profit leadership that will be critical to building the infrastructure of the new Help Me Grow navigator system that matches families with young children to the resources available in our three county area,” said Judy Olson, Executive Director of Child Care Resource & Referral in the Fox Valley area. “She is a respected leader in the field of early childhood with a deep understanding of how to create resource equity for all families, enabling our youngest children to thrive.”

First Five Fox Valley coordinates several local initiatives such as the Welcome Baby project, Developmental Screening Expansion project and the Help Me Grow resource navigator with funding support from community partners such as:

  • Welcome Baby – A grant from the Basic Needs Giving Partnership, which is supported by the U.S. Venture Fund for Basic Needs within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, the J.J. Keller Foundation, Inc., and other community partners
  • State of the Child: Winnebago – Developmental Screening Expansion – A grant from the Basic Needs Giving Partnership, which is supported by the U.S. Venture Fund for Basic Needs within the Oshkosh Community Foundation, the J.J. Keller Foundation, Inc., and other community partners.
  • First Five Fox Valley Centralized Access Point & Call Center – A grant from the Community Health Action Team of the Fox Valley (CHAT)First Five Fox Valley – A grant from the Bright Idea Fund within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region Funded Activity: Operationalize the strategic vision for First Five Fox Valley
  • Help Me Grow Fox Valley — A grant from U.S. Venture/Schmidt Family Foundation Inc.
  • Amcor Foundation and Breakfast Rotary in Kimberly WI.
Tengesdal obtained a Master of Education degree from Azusa Pacific University and a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning from the University of North Dakota and is an adjunct professor in the Early Childhood Special Education department at UW Oshkosh. She replaces outgoing Executive Director, Marchelle Moten who is relocating out of the state.
